3. Diplomasi Kilat PM Shehbaz Sharif

Griffith University has also expressed its gratitude for the support from the Queensland Government throughout the planning process, as the institution looks to redefine education in a space that bridges the past with the future. “We are excited about this transformative venture and look forward to creating a world-class educational hub that will shape the future of learning and community engagement in Brisbane and beyond.” International students are expected to thrive in this central location, where they can study, work, and live in the vibrant heart of Brisbane. Well-connected by bus, train, and ferry services, the campus will also benefit from future infrastructure developments. The prime CBD location will provide enhanced accessibility for students across Brisbane, especially those from the western and northern suburbs. Finch added that it would be exciting to see how Griffith would shape the future of the building while preserving its legacy.
“In addition to this we are paying the buyer any interest earned on the investment of the deposit, in line with banking requirements, this can take at least 30 days to redeem the investment. According to project marketers YPM Group, 90 per cent were sold within the first four weeks of launch in 2022. Costs for the project have reportedly skyrocketed by an estimated $1 billion from 2015 when the joint venture, then including The Star Entertainment Group, agreed to develop Queen’s Wharf for $2.6 billion. The mixed-use development in the heart of Brisbane hit the headlines again this week as news broke apartment contracts for the 800-unit project had been cancelled. QIC also has the development rights to the above-ground Cross River Rail sites, including Albert Street where it plans to build a commercial tower. It is unclear whether Star would continue operating the casino – it expects to finalise the deal by the end of June – as US casino giant Bally’s Corporation has made a play for its other casinos, including on the Gold Coast.
That precinct will include 1,000 premium hotel rooms, restaurants, up to 2,000 residential apartments, a dozen football fields of public space, and a foot bridge across the Brisbane River, which is half finished. The final project will include expanses of parkland in the CBD. A special manager was appointed to monitor the company’s operations and provide updates to the state regulator about the reform work the company is undertaking to keep its licence. This week’s announcement by the state government is not the first controversy to hit the development. Ms Fentiman will then be able to take a range of actions, including issuing directions, fines, suspending or cancelling Star’s licence. The state government will issue Star Entertainment with a show-cause notice but it will take some weeks for that to be prepared and formally given to the company. He made 12 recommendations, which the government will implement, and one gives a clue as to how the state government could manage Star Entertainment’s casino licence into the future.
Star Entertainment said it would continue to engage with the joint partners and “provide an update if there are any material developments regarding the parties’ respective interests in DBC and DGCC”. In addition to those short-term payments, the termination means Star will be on the hook for future contributions to DBC, estimated to be around $200 million. In March, Star, which operates casinos in Brisbane, the Gold Coast and Sydney, had reached an agreement with the owners of the other half of Brisbane’s Queen’s Wharf casino and hotel development to take over its 50 per cent stake. The heads of agreement was terminated as a result, and Star will retain its 50 per cent equity in Destination Brisbane Consortium (DBC) and Destination Gold Coast Consortium, as well as the Treasury hotel in Brisbane. It is due to partly open later next year, after construction delays pushed the opening back several months.
The Brisbane financing milestone provides fresh fuel for the joint Brisbane efforts by the Aussie gambling operator and its Hong Kong partners after the group was stymied late last year in its efforts to launch a similar mega-casino in Sydney. Star, Chow Tai Fook and FEC kicked off construction of the basement levels of Queen’s Wharf Brisbane in June last year, and have continued to press forward despite the pandemic. The development in the Queensland capital encompasses the adaptive reuse of a number of heritage-listed government buildings including the former Treasury Building, the former Land Administration building, and the former state library.

In 2009, Morgenthau announced that investigators had tracked the flow of money through the Channel Islands and London to “someone in Hong Kong who we believe is connected to the investors”. It endorsed the probity of another consortium bidding in Cairns which involved construction group Leighton.
A spokesperson for The Star said they were “disappointed” workers were taking industrial action as it would impact visitors. “The 4 per cent offer still leaves Star workers well behind what other casino workers are earning.” “Those cuts to penalty rates will have the biggest impact on the lowest paid workers — the cleaners and the housekeepers,” she said. Ms Schofield said The Star was currently offering workers a 4 per cent pay offer over three years, which would come with cuts to penalty rates on Sunday. Hundreds of workers at Star’s Brisbane casino are set to walk off the job, saying the entertainment group has proposed cutting penalty rates as it faces financial woes.
Brisbane Star Entertainment casino workers to strike over pay negotiations amid ongoing financial woes Queensland’s Casino Control Act 1982 was amended in March 2024 to include specific measures to minimise gambling harm and prevent money laundering. Fifth and sixth apartment towers have been approved for the site, offering 1360 apartments, but the construction timing has not been confirmed. Queen’s Wharf Brisbane includes four luxury hotels, more than 50 bars and restaurants and 2000 residential apartments between William Street and George Street. The Neville Bonner Bridge is part of the $3.6 billion Queen’s Wharf casino development and included in the budget. The project’s design partners include Jerde Partnership (lead design in masterplan, urban design and place-making), Cottee Parker (integrated resort development architects), ML Design (heritage architects), Grimshaw (bridge architects), Urbis (landscape architects, heritage specialists, town planners and urban designers) and Cusp (landscape architects). However, the development has been heavily criticized by peak built environment groups, including the Australian Institute of Architects, Australian Institute of Landscape Architects and the Urban Design Alliance, which questioned the appropriateness of locating a casino so close to the seat of government.
In Australia, integrated casino resorts like Crown Sydney and Queen’s Wharf Brisbane have redefined city skylines, attracting investment, increasing property values, and influencing local economies. Putting its share on hold last week, Star repeated a warning made early in February that without a rescue deal to pull in cash it may not be able to continue as a viable business. Noting the recent media speculation in a two-paragraph statement to investors, Star on Friday confirmed the ongoing talks with Chow Tai Fook Enterprises and Far East Consortium but said it “has been unable to reach an agreement with its joint venture partners to date.” But hours later come media reports that a sale agreement had been signed with the Hong Kong-based partners. Friday’s admission that a deal could not be reached painted an increasingly bleak picture for the future of Star and thousands of staff.
