Jakarta — Aktivis Greenpeace Iqbal Damanik menyoroti bencana  besar banjir bandang dan lonsor  yang melanda Pulau Sumatera, khususnya Sumatera Utara, Sebagian Sumatera Barat dan Aceh  sesungguhnya bukan sekadar fenomena alam saja  melainkan akibat dari kegagalan kebijakan pemerintah dan praktik korporasi yang selama ini  beroperasi dan  merusak lingkungan.  Iqbal  bahkan menyebut   sejumlah koorporasi besar dan Menteri yang harus bertanggungjawab  atas kerusakan  lingkungan yang memperparah tragedi tersebut

Demikian ditegaskan Iqbal  saat tampil  podcast di kanal Abraham Samad Speak Up, yang diunggah, mulai diunggah mulai Selasa, 2 Desember 2025 kemarin.   Dalam wawancara tersebut  yang dipandu langsung   Dr. Abraham Samad, S.H., M.H.,  Ketua KPK Periode 2011-2015,  Iqbal Damanik menjelaskan jauh hari sebelum terjadi bencana di Sumatera  berbagai pihak ilmuan, pemerhati lingkungan sudah bersuara, mengingatkan para pihak untuk lebih berhati-hati  dengan tidak merusak lingkungan karena daerah  tersebut esensial. Hanya saja, himbauan, peringan tersebut tidak didengar bahkan diabaikan.

‘’Kita berduka iya Pak dengan bencana ini. Meskipun memang sebenarnya, banyak prediksi sebelumnya. Dan banyak sudah mengingatkan. Bahkan dari sepuluh tahun yang lalu sudah disampaikan, sudah diingatkan. Karena ini  daerah esensial, tapi tidak didengar, diabaikan, ,’’ jelasnya menambahkan hal yang paling menyedihkan bagi aktivis lingkungan adalah ketika hal yang mereka sudah prediksi sebelumnya  dan kemudian menjadi kebenaran.

Menurut Iqbal, tidak ada alasan bagi publik untuk bersikap diam  dengan actor – actor perusak lingkungan  tersebut.   Bahkan Iqbal  dengan tegas mendorong  publik  berani menyuarakan  pentingnya para pelaku perusak lingkungan  untuk diminta pertanggungjawaban. Bahkan bila perlu digugat di peradilan internasional.

‘’Tidak cukup mereka hanya sekedar minta maaf. Harus mundur dari Jabatannya, ‘’ ujar Iqbal menegaskan untuk mereka yang sekarang ini sedang dipercaya duduk dalam kabinet Prabowo.

Sementara itu  bersadarkan data Pusdatin Badan Nasional Penanggulangan Bencana (BNPB) melaporkan bahwa hingga Selasa (2/12/2025) malam, total korban meninggal dunia sudah mencapai 744 jiwa, sementara 551 orang masih dinyatakan hilang atau belum ditemukan.
